From Science to Finance: My Journey 👩🏻‍🔬

​The path was never straight, but it was always mine.
🔬 From the Lab…
I began my professional journey in white coats and petri dishes, holding a degree in Microbiology & Immunology. Working in a pathology department in India, I found meaning—but also a quiet whisper inside me: "There’s something more I’m meant to do."

💔 A Shift in Priorities
Coming home to Malaysia changed everything.
  • My father had passed away.
  • My mother, living alone in Perlis, needed me close. But in a small town, opportunities felt few and far between.
I knew I had to pivot.

💡 The Bold (Scary) Pivot
An inspiring woman—my aunty, with over 30 years of success at Public Mutual—planted a seed: “Why not become a Unit Trust Consultant?” But I was scared. No basic salary, no experience. So, I took what I felt like a safer route I joined CIMB as a Personal Financial Consultant. Yes, I had basic pay. But the pressure? Immense. Despite giving my all, I was invisible in a world that only saw numbers. That pain became my push. With my family’s support, I made a bold choice: I resigned after 3 months and stepped into the unknown with Public Mutual.

💪🏻 The Grit Phase: Starting from Zero
My first month’s income? RM632. I nearly gave up. But I saw people success stories—and I knew they must’ve paid the price. So, I made a promise to myself: “Give it 6 months. If it doesn’t work, I’ll go back to the lab.” Here’s where I really began:
  • ❌ ZERO financial knowledge
  • ❌ ZERO network
  • ❌ ZERO sales experience
But I Had One Thing: Discipline & Focus. I was once a shy, introverted soul but in this new world, I had to do the unthinkable: walk up to strangers. Weekdays, I worked from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, going shop to shop, factory to factory. Weekends? I was out there doing roadshows from 10 am to 10 pm. My feet were sore, my legs ached, and my shoes. Smelled like hustle. 😂 To make things harder, I saw my university friends thriving—landing good jobs, climbing fast. That comparison? It stung. It made every slow day, every rejected pitch feel heavier. I was closing fewer sales but carrying more pressure. Still—I showed up. Strangers said “no” every day. But I called it my “RM 5 lesson.” Because every rejection? It taught me something. Bit by bit, confidence grew.  I learned to start conversations, close deals, and connect deeply.

🌟 Breakthrough & Purpose 
After 6 years of relentless effort… At 30 years old, I became a Group Agency Manager at Public Mutual. Today, I:
  • Lead a team of 50+ passionate agents
  • Serve over 700 unit holders
  • Manage RM63+ million in total sales
  • Hold the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation
But beyond titles and numbers—freedom. I can visit my mom anytime I want. I no longer need to apply for leave. My income reflects my effort. And it’s worth every drop of sweat.

Nationwide annual dinner | 18.5.2025 

Last night was the Annual Award Dinner—a celebration of nationwide achievers from all over the country. One moment that truly inspired me: Watching a fellow consultant from Penang Walk up the stage as the
Nationwide Top No. 1. 👏So proud of him—and at the same time, I couldn’t help but think,

“One day, I want to be like him.” To stand on that stage. To be the best, not just for myself, but for my team, my family, and everyone who has supported me. That moment lit a fire in me. The dream is big—but I believe it’s possible.
One day, I’ll Walk that stage too. And when I do, I’ll remember this feeling.

Despite the challenges that 2023 brought, I've managed to overcome them and continue achieving my goals. Having my mom by my side to witness my success each year since 2013 is incredibly meaningful.
Cherishing these moments together and knowing that my mom able takes pride in my accomplishments is a beautiful motivation to keep striving for even greater heights. One of my wishes is to continue celebrating these milestones with my loved one every year.

ladies talk 6.6.2024

Yesterday, I reached out to K-ling, a talented makeup artist and incredible mom, to reminisce about our ladies' opportunities talk from 9 years ago (10.7.2015) and to discuss our upcoming seminar on 6/6. I told her, "Wow, K-ling, can you believe it’s been 9 years already? 🤭"


It’s amazing how time flies. Looking ahead, I’m thrilled that in another 9 years, we’ll have the chance to collaborate again on ladies' business opportunities and makeup tutorials. It’s deeply touching and fulfilling to see how we’ve both grown stronger over these years.


I still remember the early days of my career in the financial industry, when people questioned how I could survive without a basic salary and whether I regretted leaving my pathology job. Despite my initial shyness and lack of enthusiasm for sales and marketing, I’ve managed to persist and thrive for over 13 years.


Through this journey, I’ve learned that determination and focus are key. Setting clear goals provides direction and helps overcome challenges. I believe that growth comes not from ease but from facing and overcoming difficulties. Those who persevere through challenges can succeed in any sales industry 💪🏼💪🏼.


Over the past 14 years, consistency in daily and weekly work has made a significant impact. I’ve spent more than 800 days doing roadshows and face-to-face activities, which led to my promotion to Group Agency Manager at the age of 30 in 2017. I’ve built a diverse team, started a family, and now, as a mother of two, I cherish the flexibility this career offers.
On 6/6, we’ll host a ladies’ afternoon party featuring a makeup tutorial by K-ling and a brief sharing of my journey from starting in the financial industry at 24 with a non-financial background to becoming a Certified Financial Planner and Group Leader in Public Mutual. I’m excited to share my experiences and hope they provide guidance for those considering a second source of income or a career switch 🥳.

WHAT MAKE U STARTED THE unit trust industry?

I was first introduced to unit trust investment through my late father, who was a postman living in a small town in Perlis. He started saving for my education and that of my brother early on, even though I didn’t fully understand it at the time. He used to tell me about how he was investing his hard-earned money into unit trusts, but back then, I didn’t grasp the significance. However, he always disciplined himself to save whenever his salary came in.

Sadly, in 2010, my father passed away unexpectedly, without leaving any messages for my mom and siblings. After we settled everything, my sister shared with me that our father had invested some money for us in unit trusts. When I checked, I realized that the fund he had invested in back in 2008 had performed better than just putting the money in a savings account or fixed deposit. Thanks to my dad's foresight, I was able to use some of that money to pay for the down payment on my first car.

My background is actually in microbiology, and my first job was at SSHV Hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India. Although I had no prior experience, they provided accommodation and food, which helped me get by. When I returned to Malaysia, I searched for hospital jobs, but the salaries were low and the locations were far from my hometown in Perlis.
Wanting to spend more time with my mom, I began exploring other job opportunities that could provide a higher income. It was my mom who encouraged me to join my aunt, who had 30 years of experience with Public Mutual, Public Bank. She explained that I could create financial planning awareness, especially among younger generations, as the awareness to start saving early is still low in Malaysia. Of course, she also mentioned that I could earn a good income along the way.
At first, I wondered what the unit trust business would be like and how long I would stay in this field. I never expected that I would still be here today, nearly 13 years later.

Since 1st September 2011, my journey as a Unit Trust Consultant has been ongoing. Now, I do the same for my own kids—I educate them about saving by putting their angpow and festive money into unit trusts, with the goal of withdrawing it when they turn 18.
